CHANDELIER PUBLIC LIBRARY

Group project with Jenna Buckley. Overhanging bookcases was an experimental architectural studio work in collaboration with structural engineers and light designers as consultants. The timber structure, juxtaposed with the lightness of the steel at the center of the building, creates a sense of a chandelier. The building avoids columns and beans; instead, structural walls were used to distribute the bookcases' hanging load in addition to the core.

The building followed all zoning regulations, including setbacks, washroom size numbers, and ADA. The amenities of this public library are not only limited to its immense archive collection but also incorporate meeting rooms, a computer lab, a kids’ room, and an auditorium.
